Unlocking Financial Increase – Next Week!

Our conventional teaching on finances emphasizes saving; there’s nothing wrong with saving, but saving is not the same as investing.  Both are done for a purpose: saving for something shorter term and investing for longer term increase.  Saving for retirement so you can store up enough to look after yourself in old age is opposite to the Word of God.  Even investing for long term for yourself stems from a motivation for self.  God’s plans are for blessing, fruitfulness and increase, yet they have become so convoluted over the years as people have tried to reconcile things like ‘the poor you will always have’ (Matthew 26:11) with what the rest of the rest of the bible says.

God doesn’t like poverty and poverty isn’t somehow ‘holier’ than wealth.  But even if it was, then at what point is poor holy and rich not holy?  These things are all subjective and the judgements happen in your mind as life has shaped your beliefs.  If we attempt to look at finances based on what we see; what we know; or what we have experienced in the past, we are attempting to deal with the situation in the natural – with our flesh and blood.  But, we do not war “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

The focus on accumulating money for yourself so you can decrease your assets later not only wars against the economic well-being of our society, but also against the Word of God.  This means the ruler of darkness is getting the upper hand as God’s people adopt to the world’s money systems and mindset, or retreat into a place of complacency or victimization by letting ‘guilt’ occupy their mind if they go looking for more money.  The stronghold over money issues will have you looking at ways to cut back and deny desires you think are causing you to be irresponsible or not worthy of having (“because others have so much less”).

The lies the enemy has planted within us run very deep into our thinking.  This has a long-standing impact on actions which have reinforced a poverty mindset and acceptance of the status quo because the veil keeps us looking at the numbers and what we think we can ‘realistically’ expect to happen.  If you read the bible through to the end of Revelation you know that not only does satan’s influence on earth finally end, but that he uses finances as a key weapon against God’s people.  We know that in the end Jesus reigns and the poverty and corruption and disease and waring we have today will end too.  But this doesn’t mean we are powerless today!  Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit and He has all authority in heaven and earth – but we have to exercise that authority as His body; first in our own lives and the lives of our family and then those He puts within our sphere of influence.

Exercising this authority begins with an understanding that you CANNOT do finances on our own, no matter how wealthy or knowledgeable you are.  It then requires a humbleness to ask questions, regardless of how ‘stupid’ you think they are (it’s called overcoming pride).  And, it means not settling for the conventional approach that keeps you stuck between ‘chasing money’ and ‘cutting back’.

Poverty isn’t just homelessness and hungry people.  Poverty is self-centred, guilt uncertainty, overwhelm, pride, rejection, and waaaay too many other negatives to give any energy to!  Denying the prompting of Holy Spirit because you can’t see ‘how’ or putting on a false smile pretending that all is good, when really you’re afraid to admit something inside is unfulfilled is not Godly fulfillment.  Attempts to fulfill anything through denial, self-effort, or external means isn’t the joy and strength of the Lord.

Prosperity is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, strength and overflowing blessings with praises and worship to God in all circumstances.  God’s plans are that “you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2).

PS – I look forward to sharing how this revelation and conviction of financial increase is playing out in my own life and the lives of the people God is placing within my life.  ‘Beyond what you can ask or think, according to the [His] power that works in us’ (Ephesians 3:20-21) is available for anyone, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).  Amen!
