“You are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power”
I’m about to make a confession and make a commitment that I pray with the Power of Christ in me will be as revelatory to you as it is to me today!
Colossians 1:24-2:10 is the scripture the Lord brought to my mind this morning as I sat down to my bible. Actually, it was only the very last verse in the passage, Colossians 2:10 that begins, “and, you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. A verse like this is one reason why it’s so critical to read the scriptures for yourself and not simply listen to someone else interpret them for you. When you see a sentence that begins with ‘and’ it registers in your brain to find the beginning of the sentence. As you work backwards, you will naturally look for the beginning of a thought. Often this will be the paragraph of chapter, but the scriptures were written first, and chapters and verses were added later for reference and discussion.
My personal testimony about coming to Christ involves scripture references in new age materials and my enquiring mind directing me to see what the whole sentence. Many people have a bible accessible somewhere, so this is important to remember as we consider the state of our nation(s) where it seems many people who identify with Christianity are complacent or living a worldly life. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to lead people to know the truth so they can come into the fullness of what Christ died for us to experience. There are many people who have had no experience with the blessings of the Lord, but God made each of us to desire Him. He calls each one of us personally. He has knit us together in our mother’s womb. He has written about His good plans and purposes for our life at the beginning of time! Wow!
Our heavenly father is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-present. The prince of the world, Satan, is limited, defeated, and an imitator of God. Satan is the opposite of God, and is the master deceiver. He will limit our potential by planting seeds of doubt, unbelief, fear, etc. that are against the will of God who is unlimited, abundant, faithful and loving.
Back to the confession and Colossians 2:10. God is a creative being and He has made us in His image, meaning we are also creative beings. This applies to all manner of life, not just the arts as many people think. You can be creative in how you do just about anything. This seed of creativity is the Holy Spirit at work in your life leading you to the truth of God’s plans for you. But, the world has us believing we are limited in our ability by what we can see – the facts. Yet, the truth is we are complete in Christ who is above all principality and power – Satan and his fallen angels!
When I first came to know Jesus, I received what I now know as a Rhema word from God (a distinct, recognizable, direct and personal word for me and my life that coincides with scripture). My word to my ‘enquiring mind’ was simply, “I’m real you know”. It changed me because I listened and acted on it.
The second Rhema word I remember was during prayer a short while after my decision to accept Jesus as Lord. That word was, ‘complete’. “Complete what?” became a dialogue I had with the Lord for many years until I eventually understood that we are complete in Him.
But, … here’s the revelation I received today, that prompted me to write this message: ‘When we receive an idea to do something productive or loving, do we follow through and complete the task, or do we look around and rationalize or minimize the thought based on what our current circumstances look like’?
Many years ago I read a book called, ‘Leadership and Self-Deception’ and another called ‘If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going, You’ll Probably End Up Somewhere Else’. A quote I heard from a success teacher somewhere along the line also comes to mind, ‘how you do anything is how you do everything’ and my own mantra, ‘small things repeated consistently produce the biggest results in the shortest amount of time’.
As a believer, we know we have a beautiful home prepared for us by our Heavenly Father. The vision of our eternal home should prompt us to live with vision for today because eternity includes today. When you read your bible and see the word ‘now’ that’s a powerful reminder that God never changes, and Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Mark 10:30 tells us that, “he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life”. Jesus was talking about riches and how difficult it is for our heart to surrender what we have and can see to His authority. He had just told the parable of the rich young ruler who failed to see how He wanted to bless the ruler with so much more than he already had, but the young man only saw that God wanted to him to give up all the blessings he currently had and missed the increase God wanted to bring into His life ‘in this present age’.
Creative thoughts and ideas that would bring blessings to ourselves and others are seeds. They give us glimpses of visions inspired by the Holy Spirit. But, the ‘thief comes but only to steal, kill and destroy’ the abundant life Jesus came to bring (John 10:10). If the current circumstances are filled with busy-ness, chaos, lack, uncertainty, sickness, or anything other than divine health and well-being these will cause us to waiver in pursuing the creative idea God has planted in our mind and instead we can end up with incomplete projects and unfulfilled dreams. Over time, our reality shapes our view of possibilities and we operate primarily based on the laws of the world we see, rather than the Power of the unseen world of God!
The perceived limitations will breed a mindset of limitations and rationalizations in an attempt to self-justify circumstances. Many believers do this with language that essentially justifies their lack of resources or prosperity by using words that rationalize their situation because they have given up everything for the Lord. Yes, but their language isn’t contentment, it’s more often an attempt to convince themselves they ‘should’ be content with a week-to-week existence and no material wealth because they are involved in some aspect of ministry. Jesus died for us to live abundantly and to have all we need in all circumstances to triumph over the powers and principalities that inflict fear, uncertainty, chaos, stress, tiredness, and all manner of poverty and sickness. Any justification is a clear indication of the influence of a poverty spirit active in your life.
This doesn’t mean everyone ‘should’ be wealthy. Not at all. It means, the condition of your heart doesn’t need to rationalize or justify your financial situation. When you are in God’s will, you are living abundantly! Without realizing it, way too many people have deceived themselves by looking at their circumstances and not taking the small steps to consistently let God lead them and guide them to complete the tasks He has set before them. I know, because I tried very hard to let go of the desires God had placed in my heart! And as much as you might like to complain about materialism, we live in the western world because this is where God has us. This means we have a responsibility to sift through the world’s messages of gluttony and discern His voice, His purposes and His direction in the material world. There are glimpses every day into His direction for your life if you look at the ‘things’ that invoke desire in your heart and seek the Lord’s heart for you in that ‘thing’.
This morning, I woke up in our church house surrounded by renovation and moving chaos. I was lead to the passage in Colossians, and knew God was encouraging me to continue in the tasks at hand because He would cause them to be completed for His glory, praise and worship. When I approached my desk to look at the ‘to-do’ list, I realized I better clear some space. I emptied a couple ‘bankers boxes’ and decided it was most efficient if I flattened them and put them away in the basement with some other business resources.
When I went to the basement I discovered a stack of boxes had fallen over and the samples of my past books, courses, and other MoneyMinding materials had been strewn about. There were countless hours and much money invested in producing these resources sitting in the midst of other supplies and records from my financial training business.
If you’ve read my testimony you know that business came to a catastrophic halt which turned out saved my life from an attempted illegal activity at my expense. The result was painful, yet triumphant as both Joe (my husband) and I came into knew levels of knowledge and relationship with the Lord and with each other. The mess on the floor in front of me was a clear reminder of the vision God was bringing forth. The mess in our new home was / is a powerful reminder of how easily the enemy can take our eyes off the vision and cause us to experience overwhelm, frustration, uncertainty, doubt, and anxiety.
God gives us seeds in our thoughts and seeds in our physical circumstances. If we focus on what we see, we will see limitations. Limitations will lead us to thinking we are responsible to do all the work. This can create heaviness, stress, exhaustion, and cause us to lose sight of the vision. Incomplete projects and ideas and tasks are what follow. These seemingly small things when repeated consistently will produce more incompletes, more heaviness, more unbelief, more lack, and more distance between us and God.
We are complete in Him and He will complete the good work began in us – as we take our eyes off ourselves and our circumstances and fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
My Better Banking course was inspired and begun far too many years ago. There have been some false starts and the technology has been a bit of a learning curve, but God will complete this course by His Power at work within me and my team as we surrender the process to Him. He will see you experience more than you can ask or imagine as you implement a financial foundation of order and harmony to facilitate the development and realization of Holy Spirit vision in your life too!
I have also penciled some dates for more live events both online and locally. These have been birthing in me for too many years and when I shared the ideas with Joe, my heart was convicted because he simply said, ‘sure’ with no enthusiasm or excitement. Why? Because he’s heard me talk about these programs and ideas for so long he didn’t want to speak unbelief, despite his experiences with the incomplete ideas, projects, visions, books, courses, programs, and results we both originally felt before the world of limitations sabotaged the completion of God’s good plans and purposes in our life.
My commitment is to the Lord as it is to you and to my husband and others who have faithfully followed and supported my work and ministry over the years, that I will not let the powers and principalities that cause overwhelm, distractions, and lack of energy to sabotage the continuing steps forward to see this message, these programs, and the life-changing results brought to the fullness of completion through His Power at work in my life!
It’s a long weekend in Canada now, and many people take a mini holiday; some people kind of ‘check out’ of a daily grind that is their reality as they work tirelessly to keep a roof over their head and food on the table, with an empty hope for some windfall to change their life. If you know someone like that, or perhaps you’re a bit afraid to hope again, I pray you have completed reading this message and it touches your heart enough you’ll turn to the passage in Colossians and let Holy Spirit speak to you about who you are in Christ and what He might have you do towards completing a God-sized vision to fulfill His purposes through you for ‘such a time as this’!
Many abundant blessings to you today and always,
